Spend quality vacation time making a difference on the front lines of social justice and globalization.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet the leaders and members of a strong grassroots organization in a rural community.
  • Speak with the mayor and members of the municipal council and leading political activists.
  • Visit feeding centers where toddlers receive nutritious meals & pre-school education.
  • Talk with mothers who are working on projects of self-sufficiency.
  • Discuss with communities the impact of potable water projects.
  • Spend time at computer school for youth of the streets and discuss plans for a technology center.
  • See the realities of globalization in Tipitapa’s free trade zone employing over 30,000.
  • Tour historic sites such as Managua’s Plaza de la Revolución, Museo de la Revolución, Municipal Cathedral and Palacio Nacional and meet with political leaders.
  • Travel to Masaya known as the city of flowers on the shores of a crater lake and as a center for artisans and workshops making hammocks, woodcarvings, tapestries and other crafts and San Juan Oriente known for its spectacular pottery where we will visit a women’s collective.
  • Stop at Volcán National Park, active volcano.

The trip will begin at noon on Saturday, January 26 and end on Saturday, February 2, 2008. You do not have to speak or understand Spanish to participate. We will provide information for those who might want to stay longer—as tourists visiting beaches, islands, other cities, or rain forest.

Cost: 8 days: $720; Airfare, departure taxes, tips and personal expenses are not included.
